What Makes Us Different?

Treatment Philosophy

Cancer care has become increasingly complex due to a variety of factors. The Mercy Cancer Network links the expertise of local hospitals in Michigan and coordinates the collective resources across the state. The benefit to patients is that as much care as possible is delivered close to home. The network focuses on maximizing existing, comprehensive clinical services across the continuum of care for patients, while providing access to clinical research, education and resources statewide.

Physician Expertise and Research

The hospitals of the Mercy Cancer Network collectively provide the most experienced and talented cancer care physician teams available. Board-certified, multidisciplinary physician teams provide world-class cancer care accredited by the American College of Surgeons – many with commendation – from diagnosis to treatment, through follow-up care and support. Through the network, physicians and patients have access to the latest clinical research trials through the National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated Community Clinical Oncology Programs (CCOP) research bases affiliated with the Mayo Clinic and M.D. Anderson. In addition,

- NCI and NCCCP participation and membership  - Michigan Cancer Consortium (MCC) - Michigan Breast Oncology Quality Initiative (MIBOQI) - National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) - Comprehensive Breast Centers of Excellence - The International Genomics Consortium (ICG)

Care Coordination and Navigation

Providing cancer patients and their families with support throughout their cancer journey is vital. Patients battling cancer prefer to be cared for locally, where they are familiar with their own physicians, the staff and their hospital. The hospitals of the Mercy Cancer Network provide comprehensive, community based cancer-related services through nurse navigator functions guiding patients through the process and helping organize care plans, keeping patients and families informed concerning appointments, and serving as a point person for medical questions. Spiritual care services and professional oncology chaplains provide support to patients and families throughout their cancer journey.
